You probably guessed that there's a lot more going on in this video than just cutting paper with scissors, and you'd be right. But I couldn't figure out a way to succinctly summarize "Gaslamp measures and cuts pieces of construction paper to model the dimensional differences between three standard area rug sizes as applied to the size of his dining room". Yeah, that's what we're doing today. lol
I'm one of those "visual learners". In so many cases, a picture really is worth a thousand words to me, perhaps even more. Pictures or models are a wonderful shortcut to understanding for folks like me, and it is easy and fun to use a little math and some supplies to apply that concept to an interior design question: Which size area rug should I buy for my dining room?
But beyond all of that, little projects like this are a great reminder that sometimes we need to allow ourselves the luxury of focusing on one simple task for an hour, or even for a few minutes, just to give our poor brains a break. Modern life is complicated, with full of demands and conflicting priorities. Sifting through it all is mentally exhausting. Spending an hour drawing lines, cutting rectangles and moving bits of paper around can be wonderfully theraputic.
This video features the following triggers: soft-spoken ramble, paper cutting, detailed work with hands (drawing, measuring, paper handling, etc).
