All good things must come to an end.
Saint Ignatius High School football coach Chuck Kyle will coach his final regular-season game Friday night, wrapping up a remarkable 40-year career that has so far seen the local legend amass 374 wins, 11 state titles, and three national championships. In a departure from the norm, tonight's contest against Clarkson Football North out of Ontario, Canada, will not take place at the spacious Byers Field in Parma, but rather Wasmer Field on the Ignatius campus, a fitting tribute to the ultimate "Ignatius Man."
At 5-3 on the season, Kyle's Wildcats have already clinched a spot in the OHSAA Division I playoffs, so tonight's game will not be the true end of the road. However, they will have their hands full with a pesky North squad that throttled Mentor 48-28 back in September and also beat Saint Ignatius 41-40 on a Hail Mary three years ago.
