Planning to apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) under the new rules? 🇨🇦
It’s important to understand the updated eligibility requirements before you apply.
Under the recent changes, the primary applicant (sponsor) must meet specific conditions:
✔️ You must hold a work permit valid for at least 16 months
✔️ Your job must fall under TEER 0 or TEER 1
✔️ For TEER 2 or TEER 3, only specific occupations are eligible (as per the government-approved list)
✔️ You need a job letter or offer letter
✔️ 1–2 pay stubs strengthen the application (and if pay stubs are delayed, the application can still be filed and updated later)
There’s another important pathway:
🎓 If you are enrolled in a two-year Master’s degree in Canada, you may also be eligible to apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit for your spouse.
Each SOWP case depends on job category, work permit length, and timing, so applying with the right strategy is crucial to avoid refusal.
