By 1829, London was eating itself alive. With 1.5 million people crammed into a city of smoke and limestone, the metropolis had to demolish its own history just to make room for its future. Buildings were often scheduled for destruction before their mortar had even dried.
In this video, we use modern AI tools to breathe life into the detailed watercolors and engravings of Thomas Hosmer Shepherd. We are stepping off the static archive page and into a living, breathing reconstruction of a world that vanished before your ancestors were even born.
From the pristine white columns of the General Post Office to the "virtual reality" of the 1827 Colosseum, we explore the anatomy of a city caught in the act of disappearing. We walk through streets that were erased by progress and stand on bridges that no longer exist.
