The Busan–Gimhae Light Rail (often called the Busan–Gimhae LRT) is an automated urban rail line that links Busan with the neighboring city of Gimhae, creating a direct rail connection to Gimhae International Airport (PUS).
Opened in September 2011, it was designed as a modern, medium-capacity “light metro” line to strengthen airport access and cross-city mobility between Busan’s west side and Gimhae.
The line is widely recognized for how it ties into Busan’s wider subway network: key transfer points connect riders to major Busan Metro lines, making it a practical link between the airport corridor, residential areas, and central Busan.
Much of the route runs on elevated viaducts, and the system is fully driverless, reflecting the broader shift in Korea toward high-frequency, technology-driven urban transport solutions.
Beyond convenience, the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail is part of the region’s bigger story: Busan as a logistics and port powerhouse, Gimhae as a fast-growing satellite city, and the airport corridor as a vital gateway for tourism and business across Southeast Korea.
