A new study suggests that Mars has undergone 6 to 20 ice ages over the past 300 to 800 million years. Unlike Earth's glaciers, which retreated to the poles, Martian glaciers remained frozen under a layer of debris due to the planet's frigid temperatures. Led by Joe Levy from Colgate University, researchers analyzed 45 glaciers using NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter images.
