There are various definitions of telematics. Some describe it as the
branch of information technology that facilitates long-distance
transmission of computerized data. Others claim telematics is
an interdisciplinary field that combines telecommunications, electrical
engineering, vehicular technologies, and computer science.
But let’s not complicate things. Let’s keep it as light-hearted as
possible. A telematics system is perfect for commercial vehicles,
as it facilitates vehicle tracking & maintenance, fuel
management, driver safety, and more.
Telematics is the first choice among organizations of all sizes for its
efficiency and effectiveness. Research agencies like Allied Market
Research and Gartner have more than enough evidence to prove it.
Plug-in telematics products are usually the best as they don’t
require a battery to work. Also, users simply need to plug them into
the OBD-II port of their vehicles. They will start receiving telemetry
data immediately after. What if an automobile does not have an
OBD-II port? Heavy-duty vehicles often lack one, but a 12-V adapter
cable solves the problem.
GPS devices with telematics features can integrate with existing
applications and systems used by business owners and managers
for vehicle tracking, improving maintenance schedules, driver
safety, and fleet optimization.
Telematics has numerous benefits to offer in terms of decreased
fuel costs, improved driver safety, increased productivity, enhanced
payroll management, and more.
Brands offering telematics products and associated services also
provide different subscription options and fee structures. The ROI
from telematics compensates for the expenses & increases profits.
Even the future of telematics bodes well. After COVID-19, telematics
earned immense popularity.
