Yes, We Can Breed & Raise Wagyu At 36°C!
In the Cattle Feedlot of the Great Arch Farms in Glamang, Polomolok, South Cotabato where the heat index could reach as high as 40°C, Cattleman Arnel Corpuz and I are raising a herd of about 100 Pure Wagyu and Wagyu-Brahman crosses.
This proves that Wagyu, a Japanese Cattle Breed which is reputed to produce the best Beef in the world, could be bred extensively in the country, especially in provinces with major tourism areas.
Our Wagyu herd is minuscule compared to the Umalag Farms of RAMCAR Corporation in Libona, Bukidnon with an estimated herd of 3,000.
We are also not the first to experiment raising Wagyu in areas where the heat index could rise up to 40°C because several farms in the Ilocos Region had been well ahead of us.
Perhaps, what sets us apart from the other Wagyu and Cattle Farms is the fact that we focused first on the availability of feeds and Silage before venturing into this highly profitable farming activity.
In partnership with farms and landowners near our Cattle Feedlot, we have introduced Sorghum Silage Production to ensure that we will have a consistent supply of Silage for our Cattle.
Our Cattle Production also has a pre-identified buyer ensuring that everything that we produce will have a ready market.
Good Cattle Genetics, Correct Cattle Raising Technology, Sustainable Feeds and Silage Supply and a Ready Market are four critical areas in agricultural production which we have covered.
