1973 was one of the most prolific year for progressive rock releases. The super group ELP released their fourth studio album called Brain Salad Surgery in this year, and it set a new standard for what was possible in the rock genre. Toccata, the second track on the album is a cover from south American composer Ginastera. This track alone makes this my favorite ELP album. Karn Evil 9 is the other ground breaking track that takes up half the album.
Greg Lake is the groups bass player. He rarely plays guitar solos so this is a real treat to hear. The first part of the solo sounds improvised, but the second half is definitely composed. It's an extremely melodic solo so the majority of it you can learn by ear.
