00:00 Introduction
The original Turtle was a dive watch introduced by Seiko in the 70s. It was in production for many years and garnered a significant following. For this reason, Seiko ultimately reintroduced this almost identical yet nevertheless updated version, the SRP777.
00:40 First Look & Case Specs
The SRP777 boasts the same exact case material and dimensions as the first Seiko Turtle from the 1970s. Its case dimensions are as follows:
44.3mm in diameter
47mm lug-to-lug
13mm thick (tall)
22mm lug size (strap size)
Along with the SRP777, Seiko also introduced other variations on the Turtle. Check the links above for our other video reviews on the Great White Turtle and the King Turtle "Grenade".
The case on this Turtle SRP777 is basically exactly the same as the original. It is all stainless steel with a brushed top surface and polished case sides/underside.
04:39 Diver's Bezel & Crystal
This being a dive watch, the steel bezel rotates unidirectionally (120 clicks) and has a metal insert with minute graduations. The crystal is Seiko Hardlex, a proprietary Seiko material that while not as scratch-resistant as sapphire, can still keep up with this sports watch.
05:27 Matte Black Dial
The dial on this SRP777 is matte black just like the original Turtle. It has luminous hour indices, a contrasting minute track on the rehaut, and a day-date window at 3 o'clock.
The hands at center are polished steel and also have luminous fills (green Seiko LumiBrite)
06:23 How To Set Day-Date Complication
Setting this SRP777 is quite simple. You just have to unscrew the crown and pull it out to position 1 to adjust the calendar. Rotate clockwise to change the Day and counter-clockwise to change the Date.
07:56 Black Silicone Strap
The black rubber/silicone strap on this Turtle is quite pliable and comfortable to wear. It is long enough to fit bigger wrists and has a matching steel keeper and branded tang buckle.
09:36 Movement
This SRP777 is powered by a self-winding Seiko 4R36 movement. It has a 41-hour power reserve and is quite reliable with a +45/-35 seconds/day accuracy. The movement may also be hand-wound which is another factor of convenience.
