Mahindra has come a long way since the days of the Jeep-inspired Bushranger in the early 1990s, and the new Mahindra XUV 3XO proves the Indian brand is serious about competing in Australia's cutthroat small SUV market.

Starting at under $24K drive-away, this pint-sized contender takes aim at the Hyundai Venue, Toyota Yaris Cross, and Chinese rival Chery Tiggo 4 with an impressive equipment list that includes dual 10-inch digital screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and even a Harman Kardon sound system with a sub-woofer on the up-spec AX7L variant.

Don't let the bargain price fool you – the 3XO delivers surprising sophistication with reasonable build quality, comfortable seating, and a surprisingly refined driving experience thanks to its well-tuned suspension and responsive turbo triple-cylinder engine.
