Mehendi Mixology in Telugu (organic henna)

Ingredients: ✨

5 Filtered Henna powder - 50 gms
Sugar - 20 gms
lemon juice - 30 gms
oil - 10 ml
water - 100 ml

Process: 🤩

Step 1: Sift and Mix Dry Ingredients
Sift your henna powder through a fine mesh or chiffon cloth to remove any clumps or fibers. In a glass or ceramic bowl (avoid metal), mix the powder and sugar together.

Step 2: Add Liquid Slowly add your lemon juice or water. Stir until you reach the consistency of thick mashed potatoes. It should be a bit stiff at this stage; don't worry, you will thin it out later.

Step 3: Add Essential Oils
Stir in your essential oils. Mix thoroughly until the paste is smooth. The oils help "release" the dye (lawsone) from the leaf powder.
Step 4: Dye Release (The Waiting Period)
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap down so it touches the surface of the paste (this prevents a dry "crust" from forming).

Time: Let it sit in a warm spot (approx. 75°F / 24°C).
Duration: 6–12 hours if using water; 12–24 hours if using lemon juice.
The Test: To see if it's ready, dab a small amount on your palm for 5 minutes. If it leaves a bright pumpkin-orange stain after wiping, it’s ready.

Step 5: Final Consistency
Once the dye has released, the paste might have thickened. Add a few drops of liquid at a time and stir until it reaches "ribbon consistency"—when you lift the spoon, the henna should fall in a smooth, continuous string that holds its shape for a second on the surface.
