In this video I will be answering my followers' question about painting realistic flower stems with watercolor. First, I will give you a detailed overview of the stem #painting #technique I use most often. We will discuss two important considerations when painting a flower stem: 1) the type of stem connection and how it might affect your pigment transitions, and 2) the type of light (direct or diffused). Lastly, I will give you 3 simple rules that you can apply when painting #botanical subjects, including:
How to paint the top of the stem,
How your background color affects the stem layering, and
How to include color reflections in your shadows to make your #watercolor painting look more realistic. I will also give you lots of examples: both good & bad. Enjoy!
