Vintage Snowmobile Electric Conversion! Part 2: The Motor

Follow along as I convert this old, non-running, gas-powered snowmobile to use an electric motor!

This is part two of a series. In this episode, I'll introduce the electronics I will be using, including the motor, speed controller and battery bank. I'll also start assembling the drivetrain by attaching sprockets to the motor and snowmobile, that will be driven by a motorcycle chain.

The sled is a 1974 Mercury 440 M/X found in a scrap yard.

The battery is a 72 Volt bank, made of 6 x 12V AGM cells wired in series.
