This is getting closer to how soap would have been made way back in the day. I think they used ashes to make lye, maybe I'll get there one day. Almost like Fight Club, except instead of human fat, I'm using animal fat.
Tallow is an amazing fat. Even better than making soap with it, is using it as an oil for cooking, or the absolute best, deep frying with it.
It makes nice, hard, white bars of soap that are super moisturizing. It's easy and predictable to work with. I get my fat from the butcher, but you can save trimmings off your roasts too.
I tried 3 colours in this video and it makes things a bit more complicated. When working with multiple colours it's important to have a recipe that stays open for a long time, one that you're familiar with and have worked with before.
Of all single oil soaps, I think tallow is by far the best!
