Quiet Please... Misophonia Documentary Poem

"Quiet Please... The Expanded Edition" is an updated version of my documentary on Misophonia. In its simplest form, Misophonia is a disorder where the brain interprets specific sounds and visuals as a threat, and therefore sets off a sufferer's fight or flight response, amongst other physiological reactions that are beyond their control. I've lived with this condition for 47 years before finding out that it had a name; for those who have Misophonia, that moment of finding out, is usually a pivotal moment in their lives. There's a lot of misinformation and misconceptions about the condition; I'm hoping to clear up a few things and show the sufferer's and those closest to them, that they are not alone or crazy. In fact, the film received contributions from 22 countries and tripled its IndieGoGo Crowd-Funding Goal...that should show you that Misophonia impacts lives on a global scale.

I wanted to share a segment from the "Expanded Edition" and felt this poem titled "No Choice", which was written and recited by Julie R.M. Chesters from the United Kingdom, could help make Misophonia relatable for both the sufferer and the non-sufferer. Julie contacted me back in January to say how much the original film touched and validated her; she then sent me a poem and I said "this has to be in the new film". We agreed on a setting, hired a recording studio and a production team to film it, and here is the end result. This is a two-minute segment of a 110-minute full-length documentary.

The Expanded Edition was produced to include other methods of self-expression, including: art, poetry and music, as well as research that proves Misophonia is in fact, a Neurological Disorder.
