Without a doubt, Russell's return to Welsh Highland metals was the highlight of the Welsh Highland Railway's "Past, Present & Future" gala.
This marked Russell's first public passenger trains to Beddgelert, through the Aberglaslyn pass, for the first time in over 80 years. This had been the result of months of planning behind the scenes, with a series of test runs having been made in late 2018.
This video contains a number of shots taken over the weekend, mostly around beddgelert, and finishes with the WHR veteran crossing the viaduct at Pont Croesor.
She would be either double-headed or top-and-tailed with FR 0-4-0STT 'Prince'. This is because FR stock is vacuum braked, whilst Russell is air-braked only, with a vacuum brake valve being fitted in Russell's cab.
