After Jedi Knight Cal Kestis discovered the planet Tanalorr, he contacted the Hidden Path and transformed it into a sanctuary for those fleeing the Empire. Over time, word of this hidden refuge reached Saw Gerrera, who saw Tanalorr’s potential as a strategic base for his insurgency.
With an influx of refugees, many chose to take up arms, swelling the ranks of Saw’s Partisans. Together, they repurposed civilian vessels into transports capable of ferrying rebel forces across the galaxy. But survival alone would not be enough—action had to be taken. Their target was Kessel, a key Imperial mining world rich in Coaxium, the vital hyperfuel that powered the Imperial Star Destroyer fleet. Without it, the Empire’s war machine would falter.
Cal Kestis declined direct involvement, choosing instead to focus on aiding refugees. But Saw Gerrera and his forces pressed forward, determined to strike a decisive blow. To ensure the operation’s success, they needed a small infiltration team to disable Imperial communications and sensor arrays before the main assault. For this, they turned to a local smuggler with a reputation for getting the impossible done—Han Solo. While uninterested in the Rebel cause, Solo agreed to the job—for the right price. To ensure his cooperation, Chewbacca was assigned to accompany him aboard the Millennium Falcon.
Once the sensors and comms were down, the main Rebel force would launch their assault, crippling Kessel’s Coaxium mines and delivering a devastating blow to the Empire. The mission was set. Success would mean a turning point in the fight for freedom. Failure would mean annihilation.
