The NBA playoffs are about to begin and the OKC Thunder are the best team in the NBA, with a net rating that is second only to the Chicago Bulls team of Michael Jordan. OKC are the favorites to win the NBA title and a huge reason for that has been their dominance for the entire season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the favorite to win MVP over Nikola Jokic, and while the Thunder will face potential playoff problems via the Lakers with LeBron James and Luka Doncic, Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, or even Steph Curry and the Warriors, the Thunder have proven that they have a strong core that's capable of winning whether they play big or small. OKC obviously have All-stars Shai and Jalen Williams but a big part of their success has been their big lineups which feature Chef Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein.
After OKC lost in the second round of the playoffs last year, GM Sam Presti knew that the team needed to add size, which brought us to the Hartenstein signing or to some extent the trade between Josh Giddey and Alex Caruso. Now, the Thunder seem to have the personnel to match up with any opponent in the playoffs, whether it be the size of Nikola Jokic, the big lineups of the Houston Rockets with Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams, or even the Timberwolves with Gobert. The Thunder are also versatile enough to match up with either the Celtics, the Bucks with Giannis and the Cavs who also have big lineups.
The OKC Thunder have produced their best season in a long time, which is even better than that of the Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook Thunder teams. But can this OKC roster actually win the NBA title? Let's talk about how adding size might actually be the key to the Thunder finally winning the NBA championship.
