My grandparents always get my family hand made German Christmas ornaments because of the time they spent in Germany years ago. I decided to make a couple, following the design aesthetics of Steinbach branded ones, for them and my Mom who spent years there also growing up.
I decided to let my more colorful wood grain do the speaking for design though instead of paint all around. the cedar's light and dark grain on the stomachs looks like a jacket and shirt combo. The redheart wood for a hat, and the Maple for the undisturbed white grain to make a smother looking face.
The Cedar is from the same exact wood that made the tables in my brother's restaurant, Retreat Gastropub.
The Maple is either from a tree in my backyard or a fallen tree in Emmenegger Nature Park. I can't remember.
I bought the redheart as a pen turning blank from Woodcraft in STL years ago.
Enjoy this Holiday season with some making and a nice Christmas tune.
