Mikael Salo & David Olivares - Looking Back (Andre Matos Tribute)

A year ago the world lost a great Brazilian artist, composer, and singer - the legendary Andre Matos. Andre had an amazing talent of bringing his classical background into the world of heavy metal, through his vivid composition style, and an approach to his vocals that resembled more that of a fine-tuned instrument, as opposed to a more rough traditional heavy metal vocal style.

Driven by this tragic loss of the global metal scene, Finnish singer Mikael Salo teamed up with Chilean guitarist David Olivares. The idea of a tribute came to their minds and soon the duo started looking through Andre’s vast and rich discography. They decided to cover a song from his first solo album called “Looking Back.” This is a very special song to Mikael Salo, who names the album as his favorite from the maestro's works. The lyrics deal with loss and the reminiscing of times past, it's almost as if Andre would've composed this song thinking about his legacy and the passing of time. One thing is for sure, we will always remember his amazing career and celebrate his music into the future!

“Looking Back” will be the first track to be released from Olivares and Salo’s acoustic album “Crossing Worlds,” which is due to be released sometime next year. In the album, they will pay tribute to their heroes in music, covering a wide range of songs acoustically, with a goal to create an album to soothe the souls of wandering hearts such as theirs.

Hace un año, el mundo perdió a un gran artista, compositor y cantante brasileño: el legendario Andre Matos. Andre tenía un talento increíble para llevar su formación clásica al mundo del heavy metal, a través de su vívido estilo de composición y un enfoque de su voz que se parecía más a un instrumento afinado, en comparación con una voz de heavy metal tradicional más áspera estilo.

Impulsado por esta trágica pérdida de la escena global del metal, el cantante finlandés Mikael Salo se asoció con el guitarrista chileno David Olivares. Se les ocurrió la idea de un homenaje y pronto el dúo comenzó a buscar en la vasta y rica discografía de Andre. Finalmente decidieron cubrir una canción de su primer álbum en solitario llamado “Looking back.” Esta es una canción muy especial para Mikael Salo, quien nombra el álbum como su favorito de las obras del maestro. La letra trata sobre la pérdida y el recuerdo de tiempos pasados, es casi como si Andre hubiera compuesto esta canción pensando en su legado con el paso del tiempo. Una cosa es segura, ¡siempre recordaremos su increíble carrera y celebraremos su música en el futuro!

Esta canción será la primera en ser lanzada en el álbum acústico de Salo y Olivares “Crossing Worlds,” que se lanzará en algún momento del próximo año. En el álbum rendiran homenaje a sus héroes en la música, cubriendo una amplia gama de canciones acústicamente, con el objetivo de crear un álbum para calmar las almas de corazones errantes como el de ellos.
