The gear tooth have always a profile with it. The involute profile is the one,
by the help of which constant torque power transmission takes place between the gears. If we coil a cylinder by a thread and start unwinding it, the the locus of free end of unwinding thread will generate an involute profile. In this lecture one can learn how constant torque power transmission takes place by using involute gear tooth profile on gear teeth.
