Mayor Jacobs’ Small Business Series Features Lulu’s Tea Room.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs interviews Deana Hurd, the owner of Lulu’s Tea Room, as part of his small business series.
Throughout the past year, the Mayor has conducted interviews with small business owners, offering them the opportunity to talk about what they do; to highlight their work; and share any future plans. This month, the series focuses on women-owned businesses as the Mayor recognizes Women’s History Month. A new vignette runs each week on the county and Mayor’s various social media platforms.
Lulu’s operates out of a home built in 1896 with a lot of history and eclectic style that makes it “just like being at grandmas.”
In this week’s interview, the Mayor and Hurd talked about the business’ history and the challenges of running your own business.
“It does take a lot of work to run a small business,” said Mayor Jacobs. “You’re doing the cooking…the prep…the cleanup, but also the marketing…sales…accounting…all those things!”
“I’m thankful to be my own boss,” Hurd said. “But I also have a wonderful team.”
