• There is no conclusively documented human “author” in the way modern songs have composers; such dhyana verses are part of the spiritual-ritual tradition, composed in ancient times by rishis, seers, or sanctified sages as aids for meditation.
• The primary purpose was to help the practitioner visualize the divine form of Shiva before beginning worship (puja) or mantra recitation. It serves as an inner “invocation” or “entrance prayer.”
• In Vedic and Puranic temple and home worship, before chanting main mantras (like Rudram, Maha Mrityunjaya, Shiva Sahasranama, etc.), priests and devotees often recite dhyana slokas (visualization verses) to deepen focus and sanctify the mind for communion with the deity.
• As ritual traditions spread across India, different lineages (Shaiva, Smarta, Agamic) adopted their own versions of Shiva dhyanas.
