Mixing it up Digital vs Analog

I had the very rare opportunity to combine both digital and analogue photography at the ancient Godolphin Estate in West Cornwall. The first part was in the wider estate where I was looking for Fungi and the strange organisms known as Slime Moulds. Somewhere between animal, fungus and plant, their striking fruiting bodies are some of the strangest sights in the natural world. In the afternoon, I switched from shooting hundreds of digital macro images, to taking up my 4x5 camera loaded with just four sheets of Ilford Ortho 80, an anachronistic film boasting incredible resolution and contrast. That proved to be ideal for recording the weathered stones of the ancient buildings that make up Godolphin.
The digital images were processed in Lightroom, Helicon Focus and Photoshop. The analogue ones were developed in Rodinal, scanned on an Epson V850 scanner and processed in Negative Lab Pro, before being imported into Lightroom and Photoshop.
Thanks to David Chapman, who led the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Photographic Group field trip which I was part of on the day.
