This is the story of Chirand, Bihar’s oldest human settlement, a site of immense archaeological and historical importance. Located near a river valley, Chirand is where Neolithic-age remains were first discovered — including bone tools, which are considered highly significant in the study of early human civilization. Despite its importance, the site today lies in neglect and disrepair, overgrown with grass and hidden beneath bushes.

The Neolithic Park and Museum built by the Bihar government remain unused, their boundaries broken and facilities abandoned. With no archaeological staff and only a few underpaid security guards, visitors and foreign tourists find the site in poor condition, expressing frustration over the lack of preservation and management. Chirand stands as a symbol of India’s neglected heritage, urgently needing restoration and care.
