OSHA's New Injury Fatality Reporting Rule

As a New Year’s treat for employers across the nation, OSHA is implementing a sweeping change to its Injury & Illness Recordkeeping regulations that will have employers picking up the phone to call OSHA tens of thousands times more often to report incidents in their workplaces. Under OSHA’s new injury and fatality reporting rule, employers must proactively report to OSHA within one day any injury to a single employee that requires in-patient hospitalization. This new rule will no doubt lead to thousands more incident inspections by OSHA. On top of that, OSHA plans to publish these reports of injuries on OSHA’s public website.
