Unfinished prototype for a paintball game in VR, lots of work yet to do.
Teleport mechanic is ripped as close as possible from The Lab, but to make sure other people see you moving around smoothly the body and gun pathfind and run to try and meet you where you end up. The idea is to make the game freeing for the player as possible, but still have some realistic constraints on characters. A nice side effect of this is that the server logic can accept a clients positions even if they're really strange and just try and make them work as best as possible without breaking physics or looking like exploits, much better I think than warping the client backwards.
I also wanted to follow a paradigm of trying as best I can to work with the existing controller models and fit my art around it, allowing for a wii-sports esque or The Lab esque clean aesthetic. Having in-game hands is really off-putting in my time with VR.
Paintballs have realistic trajectories with additional hop up to compensate for gravity. A ball will float up a bit before spin decreases and gravity pulls the projectile back down. Of course if you tilt the gun the hop up won't be straight up and the balls will curve!
