Grandmother has been a little sad and out of sorts these days. It seems as if she wants to take a step back from her daily routine, to distance herself for a while from the memories that meet her eyes in every corner of the house, so she can breathe a bit easier. Mahmoud, who has noticed her mood for some time, decides to do something to bring peace and brightness back to her heart. He suggests that she take a trip with a few family members—nothing too far, but full of fresh air and warm, familiar company. It is decided that Grandmother will travel with her sons and Mrs. Leila to a village where some of their relatives live. When Grandmother hears the news, a gentle smile appears on her face; the village reminds her of days filled with calm and simple joys. The road to the village, however, is not an easy one. Part of the path is steep and winding, yet this very difficulty makes the journey more exciting for them. The cool mountain breeze and the smell of damp earth awaken distant memories in Grandmother’s heart. When they finally arrive in the beautiful, green village, the clay houses, the orchards heavy with fruit, and the silver-colored river stretch before them like a painted scene. The relatives welcome them warmly, and the heartfelt simplicity of village life rekindles a light in Grandmother’s heart. She looks around quietly, but with a deep smile, and it seems as though her breath flows more freely—as if a part of herself that had long been lost has finally returned.
