Looking Room, Lead Room & Short Siding | Filmmaking Tutorials | Filmmaking Basics

Looking room is a fundamental part of film composition and shot composition in general.

Looking room is the amount of space between a subjects eyes and the edge of the frame. In this video we explore the basics of the rule of thirds, how looking room is used in a conventional shooting scenario, as well as how we can use it to create dramatic tension by short siding our subjects.
Looking room is also known as lead room when a subject is placed in motion.
