Each Saturday in Judaism is Shabbat, a day of rest that is first mentioned in Genesis 1. Different Jewish groups observe the day in different ways, the strictest of which is the Ultra-Orthodox (Haredim). Living mainly in and around the West Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shaarim, they come to nearby parts of the city every Saturday to protest against open businesses. In some cases they block the road. In this video you will see children pulling police barricades in front of moving cars.
The energy you see here is extreme but somewhat symbolic of what it means to live in Jerusalem. Religious groups and organizations in the city demonstrate publicly and frequently to defend their values and historic rights.
