How to rent a car in Madeira (with no deposit) and our tips

Driving all over Madeira is extremely inspiring and breathtaking because of the scenery. And yet, never was I so glad to return my car rental and breathe a sigh of relief — no more winding mountain roads, cars darting out from around blind corners, or those insane uphill climbs!

My main tips on driving in Madeira would be:

1)Always stay alert — especially on mountain roads and steep climbs;
2)Keep in mind that tunnels often end before Google Maps says they will (so you might miss a turn);
3)Avoid any road trips when the weather’s bad;
4)Find a hotel or Airbnb with overnight parking! Especially if you’re planning on staying in the center of Funchal;
5)Embrace the challenge that the road to and from Jardim Monte Palace won’t be an easy one!
