TRIP REPORT | First Time on Lufthansa A340-600 | Washington to Frankfurt | Lufthansa Airbus A340-600

Lufthansa Trip Report flying from Washington to Frankfurt onboard one of the Lufthansa A340-600 on a nice autumn afternoon.

My first time flying on the Lufthansa A346 and I must say it was as amazing as I expected it. Lufthansa is the last relevant operator of this model and they won't do it for long, so this was the perfect occasion to do it.

After some sightseeing at Washington Dulles Airport as well as some planespotting, we boarded the Airbus A340-600 that would take us to Frankfurt. The plane is absolutely huge, and extremely stretched version of the A340-300 that we flown recently. And amazing plane.

We took off from Washington just before the Sunset. After an initial climb with some nice views we entered a thick layer of clouds that had the tops at around 36.000ft (11km). We reached them with the last lights of the day.

The night went fast and, after setting the alarm, we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise when we were reaching the UK. These sunrises always amaze me. So silent, so peaceful. Everybody onboard is sleeping while you enjoy the sunrise almost like being there alone. After a nice approach, we landed in Frankfurt on time.

About the onboard service, there were 2: main warm meal and some kind of breakfast. The first one was a full 3-course meal (beef in my case). The breakfast was a reduced one or, let's call it, Lufthansa's interpretation of a breakfast. Jokes aside, as in recent flights, Lufhansa has improved dramatically the catering service compared to the recent years. There's still room for improvement but it was quite good.
