How to Catch Yakkas (Premium FREE Bait) - Ajing La Perouse Botany Bay

Join me for a fun and productive land-based fishing session at La Perouse Wharf, one of Botany Bay’s most popular fishing spots. In this video, I’m targeting yellowtail scad (yakkas) using light gear and ajing-style lures a finesse technique originally from Japan that’s perfect for catching baitfish and smaller predators.

TIPS TO TAKE AWAY:

1. Use berley to draw fish to your area.

2. Add scent to increase bite chances when the bite slows.

3. Find where in the water column yakkas are biting and keep casting to that same zone until they move.

4. A light rod that works properly with tiny Ajing jigheads is key. These jigheads have much smaller hooks than regular ones, which is essential for hooking yakkas.

5. Yakkas are usually more active early morning and late afternoon, but can still bite throughout the day

6. Yakkas love hanging around wharfs, jetties, piers, and reefs where there's structure, shade, and current. In Botany Bay, places like La Perouse Wharf offer an ideal habitat with consistent yakka schools

7. Keep berleying and applying scent throughout the whole session, don't stop once you start hooking on yakkas! They will be patrolling around and won't stick around in one spot unless you give them food!

8. Don’t strike as soon as you feel bites or nibbles. Wait until the yakka fully commits. let it swallow the lure and give a solid pull on your rod. After a second or two, that’s your cue to strike for a solid hook-up!
