Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with Alvin Lee. I've noticed a number of requests to feature some music from this late-great important pioneering guitarist, as his influence in helping to develop what eventually became known as "shred guitar" cannot be overlooked or understated. There's no question that Alvin Lee is a true rock shred guitar pioneer - so let's dive in!
This lesson really just revolves around ideas pulled from two songs, the studio version of I Woke Up This Morning, and the live version of Woodchopper's Ball. Both can be found on the famous 'Goin' Home' greatest hits compilation from 1975. The ideas shared here include a brief look at the opening of I Woke Up This Morning, in addition to grabbing ten early hyperactive licks from Woodchopper's Ball.
The early shred antics happening here include rapid-fire repeating licks, pivot arpeggios, chromatic/symmetrical phrases, double-picked scale runs, fast legato phrases, neighbor tone-based ideas, and much more!
Needless to say, if you're a viewer that asked to feature this late-great guitar pioneer, a player wanting to add some timeless early shred licks and ideas to their bag of tricks, a fan of the legendary band Ten Years After, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you!
