There is a delightful place on the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli, which Maestro Giacomo Puccini loved better than any other and where nature provides a peaceful oasis. Puccini arrived in Torre del Lago in the summer of 1891, accompanied by his wife Elvira and son Antonio. Over the years, he spent much of his time there and wrote many of the melodies and arias in his immortal masterpieces. The furnishings and sophisticated décor or the Villa were the work of his many artistic friends. After the death of Giacomo Puccini, the Villa became a museum at the request of his son Antonio. It contains a Förster piano, portraits of the composer at various stages of his life, his funeral mask and the folding screen, a precious gift from Japan.
The hunting exhibit includes rifles, trophies, shoes, and boots, while the conservatory, manuscripts room and kitchen contain items from daily life, honours and awards from across the world, paintings, portraits and the last words written by the famous composer.
Puccini’s remains are interred in a chapel converted from a small room and decorated with musical allegories.
Simonetta Puccini, the composer’s granddaughter and heir, extended the Museum to create an archive, library, auditorium, offices and reception rooms. A new auditorium has recently been opened for musical performances and exhibitions.
The Villa Puccini retains its original appearance intact; come and immerse your mind in this magical place and the immortal music composed there.
