Luton is a town about 30 miles north of London. It is where both my parents are originally from, and most of my relations still live in Luton, Dunstable and the surrounding area. I have distinct memories of pestering my parents to wait for the chimes so I could listen to them, during one visit to The South to visit relations.
Luton has a parish church with a ring of 12, which I have never rung on, but it also has this lovely town hall. The original Victorian town hall was destroyed in the oddly named Peace Day Riots in 1919. This new one was built in 1934-38.
The clock and bells were all supplied by Gillett and Johnston of Croydon in 1936.

Hour bell
Wt: 45-2-20
Dia: 61 1/2 inches
Note: C
The clock itself is an all electric Gillett and Johnston Master and Slave clock. The hands advance every thirty seconds, they can be seen advancing just before the hour strike. At night the whole dial is illuminated in a rather neat fashion, which can be seen here http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid...
With thanks to Chris Pickford for writing the Ringing World article from whcih I got this information, and to him generally for all the information of his I have used for these videos!
