This one has always been a big challenge for me since I adore the 1996 tour and, in terms of video recordings, it's by far the worst we have (the only one higher than a 2nd generation tape).
Whereas I had used filters in VirtualDub back in 2021 which had done a decent job but more or less blended and washed out the picture to cover up the disturbances, I was working on a more nuanced noise removal this time around which kept a bit more of the original video intact and was more precise in attacking the noise patterns.
The audio was so screwed up that it literally made my ears bleed. Sometimes, you have a good recording somewhere underneath old tape noise. This time around, you had other noise underneath the noise and some music underneath there. Combine this with the fact that the crowd was enthusiastic and loud, the camera had no exernal microphone and the tape was non-HiFi and you're basically f*****. I lifted as much noise as possible and around the acoustic set (especially during the ballads), it gets kind of okay. The toughest part really are the first 45 minutes or so until it all stabilizes. Yet I have to say that, in comparison to 5 years ago, I think we made a huge step forward!
With all this being said - the filming job on its own was still very good, especially since you see very well what's going on on stage (also during the breaks) and there are nice zooms used.
The concert was held on Richie's 37th birthday and some little surprising changes were made to the setlist.
