Dathlu Uchelgais Diwylliannol Cymru 2018 - 2022

In 2014, Baroness Kay Andrews OBE published the Culture and Poverty: Harnessing the power of the arts, culture and heritage to promote social justice in Wales report. Commissioned by the Welsh Government, the report examined how these thriving sectors could contribute more effectively to reducing poverty and raising ambition.

Based on findings in the report and following further consultation with lead partners, Creative & Cultural Skills identified the need for much more inclusive recruitment and workforce development practices across the sector and we set about creating Cultural Ambition.

Through the generous support and funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Welsh Government, the Cultural Ambition project launched in 2018, an intervention focused on young people furthest from the workplace, to develop the skills required for entry-level roles within the cultural heritage sector in Wales.

Now in its fourth and final year, Cultural Ambition has provided over 30 young people with long term, paid work placements across a network of leading partners including museums, castles, archives, libraries, and cultural heritage sites throughout Wales, as well as access to the NVQ Level 2 Cultural Heritage qualification.

On Wednesday 15th June 2022, representatives from across the project gathered together at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth to celebrate the impact the programme has had on the trainees, employers, and the wider cultural heritage sector.
