The coordinates of A and B are (-1,2) and (x,8) respectively. It is given that C (2,4) is a point on AB such that AC:CB = 1:2.
(a) Find x
(b) If DB is perpendicular to AB and the coordinates of D are (2p,p), find p.

Part (a)
{2(-1)+1(x)}/{1+2} = 2
-2 + x = 6
x = 8
Part (b)
(p-8)/(2p-8) X (8-2)/(8-(-1)) = -1
(p-8)/(2p-8) X 2/3 = -1
(p-8)/(2p-8) = -3/2
2p – 16 = -6p + 24
8p = 40
p = 5
