notes from DIME posting:
-another one from my cassette archives that hasn't circulated widely ever, that's now been digitalized and put on my hard drive. This one is from my
brother's master cassette. We saw Ra a handful of times in mid-80's at Bottom Line, sometimes together, sometimes not. My brother had already started
recording shows, so we have this document. He had a Sony D-6 I believe at the time and 2-3 types of mics, so I'm not sure which mics were used for this one.
Likely it was a stealthier model since BL didn't take kind to recording sometimes. I think we went to this show together and it's possible it may have
been the early show: sometimes BL did early & late shows and had everyone leave in between and repay. Ra would still do 2 sets each show, so if you
stayed for late show, you didn't get home until after 4 AM! This may have been the show that Ra came out and started lecturing for 45 mins before the
music started and 1 of the audience members got restless and told him to "just shut up and play some music." Ra dressed the guy down and refused to
play until the guy left! Lots of patience was required that night to get to the music and that may be why the set is short too, if it's not an early
show only.
-the quality is decent - I'd give it a "B+" - my brother, bless his Virgo heart, is a meticulous taper. The untitled ones are instrumental tunes that
I'm not confident enough to label, so if anyone can help with setlist that would be appreciated. The mood is rather mellow/somber musically, which is
another reason I think it was the night he dressed that guy down. However, it's a good show and worth the listen just to hear track 11 Improv - just
a tremendous free form/jazz/spacey track! This show is dedicated to all the great DIME jazz seeders: you know who you are! Enjoy this private one from me!
-didn't see this one listed on web, but band member list is based on other shows from August 1986 and is likely incomplete/slightly inaccurate. I know
for sure the date is good on this one since I was there and my tape says so and the BL Timeline confirms too.
