A mid-summer catch up on our wildlife garden.... featuring a few plants that are especially good for insects, including Wild Marjoram, Drumstick Alliums, Viper's Bugloss, Golden Valerian (the tall yellow plant) Wild bergamot, Echinacea, Verbena bonariensis, Thistles, Yarrow, Sanfoin, Gooseneck Loosestrife, Purple Loosestrife, Wild Mignonette, Russian Comfrey, Lavender, & Lamb's Ears.
I also mention Yellow Rattle, Red Bartsia and Eyebright (which didn't re-seed themselves last year). These plants are all useful for establishing meadows because they parasitise the roots of vigorous grasses.
N.B. No slugs were harmed by the tubs of sheep's wool slug pellets or slug defence, on the path. They were just deterred from eating our seedlings.
