Police Report: On May 21, 2024, at approximately 4:40 AM, I, Sergeant Cabrera (ID-323), was dispatched to assist in the pursuit of a stolen gray BMW with Florida tag JBE10. Trooper Ronald Melendez (ID-1166) initiated the pursuit on eastbound State Road 826 and NW 57th Ave after the vehicle fled at speeds exceeding 149 miles per hour. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Miami-Dade County, and a BOLO was issued by FHP dispatch.
The pursuit continued north on Florida's Turnpike, where the BMW continued to drive recklessly, actively fleeing from Trooper Melendez, who had his emergency lights and siren activated throughout the entirety of the pursuit. The vehicle exited onto eastbound Sunrise Boulevard, then turned north onto State Road 7, still at high speeds. Road conditions were dry, and traffic was moderate.
The BMW weaved in and out of lanes, passed NW 19th St, and made a right turn onto eastbound Oakland Park Boulevard from State Road 7. The vehicle then turned left onto NW 30th Ave, entered a shopping center, and exited onto westbound Oakland Park Boulevard. The BMW intentionally struck Trooper Melendez's patrol car, causing him to lose control and strike a pole.
The BMW continued west on Oakland Park Boulevard, made a left turn onto southbound State Road 7, lost control, and collided with a bus stop area, coming to a final rest. The driver, identified as Tommie Allen, and the passenger, Tyler Tyrone Hollins, fled on foot.
Fort Lauderdale Officer Orlando Munis-Bueno (badge number 1991) was able to apprehend the driver of the BMW. The driver was identified as Tommie Allen by his Florida ID card (A-450-800-06-025-0). A Fort Lauderdale K-9 Officer located the passenger of the BMW inside a residence. The Fort Lauderdale Police K-9 was deployed and apprehended the suspect. The passenger was identified as Tyler Tyrone Hollins by his Florida driver's license (H-452-818-04-209-0). Both suspects were treated as necessary and transported to Broward County Jail.
Mr. Hollins was transported to Broward General, where he was treated for the K-9 bite and released.
Trooper Melendez was transported to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
Both suspects were transported to Broward County Jail for booking. Charges: Aggravated Battery on Officer, Grand Theft/Use of Vehicle, Fleeing/Eluding Law Enforcement at High Speed, Resisting Officer Without Violence, Operating Motor Vehicle Without a Driver's License.
