Why So Much Hate for the M1 Carbine?

Why is it so popular to trash the M1 Carbine? These negative reports are mainly from those who criticize its effectiveness in battle. Whether it's mostly myth or not, there seem to be significant numbers of soldiers who reportedly found them underpowered for battle.
