Investigators tried for years to identify her using fingerprints and dental records, but were unsuccessful. Eventually, advances in DNA technology, specifically genetic genealogy, allowed them to find a distant cousin and build a family tree. This led them to Wanda Jean Neill Kirkendall, finally giving her a name and bringing some closure to her family after decades of wondering what happened to her.
