Graphite crucibles are specialized containers used in high-temperature applications like metal casting and smelting, designed to endure extreme heat while maintaining their structure and functionality.
The production of graphite crucibles begins with a mix of high-purity graphite powder, a binder (like clay or resin), and sometimes additives (such as silicon carbide) to enhance stability. This mixture is carefully blended to achieve a consistent texture. Once prepared, the material is molded into crucible shapes.
After molding, the crucibles are dried to remove any moisture. They are then baked in a kiln at temperatures as high as 1200°C, solidifying the structure and bonding the materials tightly together. This high-temperature baking, or sintering, imparts the crucible with the necessary strength to handle repeated heating cycles.
Finally, the crucibles are inspected for quality, checked for any defects, and given a smooth finish before being packaged for transport. The result is a robust, thermally stable product, perfect for use in the challenging environments of metal melting and other industrial processes.
