Shawn from SBSOLOCO is back — and this time, he’s tearing into his CNC to replace the ball screw bearings on all three axes: X, Y, and Z. After running a ballbar test (check out that video if you missed it), he knew something wasn’t right. The culprit? Worn-out bearings — not the ball screws themselves.
In this video, Shawn teams up with Brent Thompson from Northwest CNC to tackle the job. Along the way, they also fix a couple of limit switches, swap out some cables, and uncover a few surprises that come with working on a 20-year-old machine.
This isn’t a DIY job for the faint of heart — and Shawn will be the first to tell you, he couldn’t have done it alone. If you’re chasing down accuracy issues, dealing with backlash, or just curious what goes into this kind of CNC maintenance, you’re gonna want to stick around.
