How do you know an auto repair shop is ripping you off? Well, if they quote $225 labor for a job that takes a totally untrained, inexperienced person less than five minutes, that might be an indication.
This shop (who charged $1200 for a repair for which my Toyota dealer would charge $650, including $359 for an aftermarket inverter water pump that costs $219 for the Toyota part at a Toyota dealer, only to have that aftermarket pump fail in less than an hour) told my daughter that cabin air filter replacement is expensive because you have to practically take the dash apart to get to the cabin air filter. And if you don't know anything about cars you might believe that, but this is a case where reading your owner's manual could save you some money. Which you'll need for reeds. Sure, pay a competent mechanic for real repairs, we need those people to make a decent living so that competent people will become mechanics. But don't be a prey species for lizards like this.
