📌 Wander Diary: As evening falls over Colorado Springs, the Garden of the Gods transforms. The towering red rocks catch the final light of the day, glowing like embers against the deepening blue of the dusk sky. Each formation seems to shift and breathe with the fading sun, all painted in fire and shadow.
This quiet 20-minute wander was filmed as the world slowed down. The crowds had thinned, the air was still warm and calm, and the sandstone felt alive with colour and texture. Every turn of the path revealed a new angle of gold, a new play of light that reminded me how small and lucky we are to be part of such beauty.
So take a slow step into the stillness with me… no rush, no real commentary, just the rhythm of footsteps, the occasional birdcall, and the soft groaning of a wanderer’s back still recovering from too many miles on the road.

🏜️ Fascinating Facts about the Garden of the Gods
The Garden of the Gods sits at the meeting point of the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, where two vastly different worlds collide in colour and stone.
The park’s red rock formations are over 250 million years old, sculpted by time, wind, and the slow rise of the earth during the creation of the Rockies.
The dramatic spires, fins, and towers you see today were lifted skyward by the Laramide Orogeny, the same ancient forces that gave birth to the entire Rocky Mountain range.
Native American tribes, including the Ute and Apache, considered this land sacred, a gathering place where the earth met the heavens.
The park’s name dates back to 1859, when one explorer suggested it would make a great beer garden, and his friend replied, “Beer garden? This is a place fit for the gods!”
The highest point in the park rises around 6,400 feet (1,950 meters) above sea level, offering breathtaking views of Pikes Peak and the surrounding plains.
In 1909, the family of Charles Elliott Perkins gifted the land to Colorado Springs, on one powerful condition: that it remain free and open to the public forever.
The park became a National Natural Landmark in 1971, recognised for its spectacular geology, diverse ecosystems, and stunning scenic value.
The Garden of the Gods welcomes over 4 million visitors a year, making it one of the most visited public parks in the United States, yet still managing to hold moments of deep, quiet peace.
Wildlife thrives here, from bighorn sheep and mule deer to red-tailed hawks circling above the cliffs, all living beneath those fiery sandstone spires that glow brightest at sunrise and sunset.
