THE POWER OF THE MOTHER TONGUE

So much power is held in our tongue.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Proverbs 18:21

For the mouth speaks from what fills the heart.

“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
Luke 6:45

From the heart flows all of life.
From the heart, to the mind, to the mouth.
Whatever lives in the heart will eventually come forth.

“Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23

So what are you feeding your heart today,
life, or rot? As the saying goes, you are what you eat.
So too, your heart becomes what you feed it.

“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:8

Spirituality is measured by the tongue.
No control means zero.

“If anyone thinks he is religious (spiritual) and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion (spirituality) is worthless.”
James 1:26

I can talk and talk,
but if I don’t walk the walk,
what use am I to my God?

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving yourselves.”
James 1:22

Do all things as if standing in the presence of God, 24/7. Would I act the same? Think the same? Speak the same, if I were standing before Jesus?

“Whatever you do, in word or deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
Colossians 3:17

“Oh Lord, if this isn’t true,
I have sinned greatly before You.
Give me a heart as pure as gold,
a tongue refined and bridled.”

“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10

The tongue is also a fire,
a world of evil among the parts of the body.
It corrupts the whole body,
sets the course of one’s life on fire,
and is itself set on fire by hell,
James 3:6

Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues.
“When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.”
Proverbs 10:19
